A rare lightning storm over Seattle

Lightning storm over Seattle
Lightning over downtown Seattle from Kerry Park.

Last night we had a rare and intense thunderstorm in Seattle. It began while I was at a restaurant having dinner, and I managed to scramble back home, grab my camera and joined many other photographers at the iconic view at Kerry Park.

People from other parts of the country may wonder why residents of the Pacific Northwest get so excited by lighting and thunder. Storms like this are exceedingly rare, given the temperature influence of the Pacific Ocean. In the 20 years of living here, I can only remember a handful of storms like this.
