January in the Alberta Rockies is made for photographers—crisp air, fewer crowds, golden hour light, and the glow on the snow. We’ll start this photo workshop in the Banff area and finish on Abraham Lake, chasing ice bubbles, cracks, and winter abstracts. Every shoot is planned around the best light and supported by hands-on coaching and image reviews from local pro photographers who will make sure you go home with images you are proud of.
Highlights
- Photograph the classic Rockies with local experts—frozen lakes, mountain reflections, and golden-hour magic around Banff and Lake Louise. If the skies cooperate, we are always on the lookout for northern lights.
- Turn winter weather into mood—we’ll teach you how to use snowfall, fog, and storm light to create images that feel cinematic, not chaotic.
- Master ice and waterfall technique—from long exposures to crisp detail work, you’ll learn how to control shutter speed, contrast, and texture in harsh conditions.
- Capture Abraham Lake’s ice bubbles —a signature winter subject that rewards curiosity, careful framing, and a willingness to get a little cold for a great photo.
- We do the driving. You focus on your photography—watching the light, and actually enjoying the ride instead of white-knuckling the steering wheel.
