The Mangystau region of western Kazakhstan feels like another world. Vast desert, sculpted limestone formations, colorful ridges, salt flats, and deep canyons create a landscape that feels both remote and unlike anywhere most photographers have experienced. From the air, Mangystau becomes even more extraordinary. Patterns, textures, shadows, and geological formations reveal themselves in ways you can’t see from the ground, making this an exceptional destination for drone photography.

Throughout the workshop, we focus on your drone photography. James, Mindy, and our local guide will be there to help you find the composition, make the flight, and come home with stronger images. When your drone is hovering over one of the most unusual landscapes on Earth, we want the person beside you helping you make the photograph, not trying to make their own.

Highlights

• A workshop designed for drone and landscape photographers. Instead of simply bringing a drone on a traditional landscape tour, we plan our locations and photo sessions around creating strong aerial images.
• Photograph the extraordinary landscapes of Mangystau. Capture colorful geological formations, desert landscapes, salt flats, ridgelines, and abstract patterns from perspectives only possible from the air.
• Just six photographers, with hands-on drone instruction. Mindy, James, and our local guide, Konstantin, will help you refine composition, camera settings, flight positioning, altitude, panoramas, and abstract photography. Our small group allows more individual attention, easier drone coordination, and flexibility to follow the best light and conditions.
• Comfortable expedition camps in remote locations. While we may be far from traditional hotels, our camps include comfortable cots, hot showers and toilets, Starlink satellite, multiple generators for charging drones and camera batteries, and two traveling chefs preparing meals throughout the journey.
• We handle the complicated parts. From drone registration guidance and local permits to legal flying areas, location planning, charging, and transportation, we handle the logistics so you can focus on flying and creating photographs.
