Caddo Lake

Landscape Photography in the Heart of the Bayou

November 3 – 7, 2024

Caddo Lake has an otherworldly quality to it. Majestic bald cypress trees rise from tannin-stained waters with crowns draped in Spanish moss. Their needles turn red and orange in autumn, lending fiery color to the otherwise muted landscape. Fog swirls around the broad cypress trunks and rises among their branches. Wildlife thrives in these quiet forests, including abundant species of birds. With luck, we may even see an alligator!

The Caddo Lake ecosystem provides plenty of photographic opportunities as a protected wetland area and home to one of the world’s most extensive flooded cypress forests. We’ll be shooting from special flat-bottomed boats, allowing us an intimate perspective of the trees and getting us close to wildlife. Along the way, you will learn to use a variety of focal lengths and perspectives to create compelling images of this unique environment. From grand landscapes to small intimate scenes, Caddo Lake has it all!

We’ll stay at comfortable local hotels and shoot at sunrise and sundown. We’ll be conducting classroom learning on Lightroom and holding our signature image review sessions when not in the field. Join us in the magical flooded bayou!
